Transformers HasLab Unicron review

I finally got it. The one transformer that towers over all others. And appropriately so. Unicron is not like any other character in the past, as he is a planetformer who ate a smaller planet, made deals with smaller robots, and had a weakness found in none other than the Matrix of Leadership. However, his toys have never fulfilled the awe-inspiring approach that he possesses as the character we have yet to witness. We had three canceled prototypes before Armada gave us a worthy figure. Then we inexplicably got a Deluxe in the Cybertron line and a size-class increase for the mediocre TFP Voyager. It's been nearly a decade since we last saw a new Unicron toy that wasn't a repaint or a statue, so now let's get to the Chaos Bringer himself!

Here is Unicron in his planet mode. Or rather, my attempt at transforming him into said mode, because as it turns out, not only do I lack the instructions for this toy, but I did not get HasLab Unicron but instead a rare prototype of the original 1986 Unicron toy that was canceled back in 1986? I don't know how the transformation works so we'll go with that route.

Transformation is not easy to do without moving a part incorrectly because of the age, so here he is in his rounded, inaccurate robot mode. Unicron's intended look was from back when he was originally named Ingestor. What a stupid name. Anyways, this design is like a big ball with limbs and a head attacked. For an old toy, it's not too bad in the details apartment for the torso, but the legs look much smoother by comparison. Of note is that to accommodate the roundness, Unicron's arms are curved for his planet mode ring while his legs are at this stance forever. The blue and yellow stand out compared to the orange and gray in the history of Unicron's toys.

Head sculpt is closer to the final design than the rest of the body, only it's much softer in the details and it isn't 1:1 quite yet. As for his articulation, the head can swivel while the arms can move around at a weird angle with 360 degrees, and his legs can pitifully move front and back somewhat. He has no gun yet his hands are open for accessories.

For a robot mode size comparison, here he is standing next to Combiner Wars Megatron and Optimus Prime. These two are smaller than this guy, though there may be a chance that figures like the original Fort Max tower over him. Hell, you can get any Titan Class figure and they'll tower over this guy. Overall, this figure is a rare one to recommend, and I can only recommend him if you see the prototype and sell your neighbor's real estate just to own his prototype.
