Here we have Deadpool in hand. A reuse of the Bucky Cap mold, this figure was at least made from when it was still in circulation. It fits his build perfectly fine, and having this as a straight reissue was at least logical on Hasbro's part for anyone who may want this after missing out on the version with Hydra Bob. The color scheme is a lot more simple compared to other versions, being in red and metallic dark blue all throughout. It's meant to evolve his first appearance, but that approach may not be 1:1 with the comic artwork having those areas as black with gray/white shading. The harness and pouches also vary from being red to brown. As it is, the figure still looks good, and there are at least some paint on the buckets of the harness and his belt. As for the katanas on the back, we'll get to them in a moment, but I like the handles being painted.
His head sculpt is already great with the domino look to them as well as the piercing eyes (though up close, there is a slight mishap. While the expression looks natural for the character, this version was meant to represent a time when he was not quite as animated or 4th-wall-breaking as we know him today. His articulation is the standard Bucky Cap affair, which means he lacks butterfly joints and has the typical disk hinge neck, but he at least has the standard waist swivel and ab-crunch. His katanas, molded in a slightly metallic plastic, are surprisingly undersized for a merc with a mouth like himself. I don't know if this is also meant to homage the old toyline, but if that's the case, at least it sort of makes sense for him rather than the variant I'll cover in a moment.
He also has his twin machine guns, which aren't painted but at least Hasbro keeps adding guns to their Legends unlike McFarlane being restricted by WB's firearm restrictions. The rifle and pistol at least have paint on them, and I like that even with the red painted on the former, it at least matches Deadpool's deco very well.
For anyone wondering what other Deadpool figures were made on the Bucky Cap body, we have the 2016 Juggernaut-wave version with a then-modern appearance from the Marvel NOW era, with the manic alt head and taco making me wish the retro version came with one. The one in the middle is the Cycle version that came with Dogpool and Squirrelpool; he has both a screaming head and a costume similar to his X-Force design. The one on the right is from the Sasquatch wave, which has more color break up at the cost of no guns.
As for Wolverine, this figure is where Hasbro can genuinely deliver a good Legends offering. Unlike Deadpool, Wolverine is a mostly new sculpt that better matches his Astonishing X-Men costume far better than the 2013 version and is honestly comparable to the ToyBiz version we had long ago. We have the same stocky proportions that befit tbe character, and the shades of blue and yellow compliment the character design perfectly, and the skin tone manages to look naturalistic while also featuring the hair deco for the upper arms. No paint mistakes are found, not even in the gloves or belt buckle. While 90s fans would recognize Tiger Stripe as their favorite, 2000s fans will no doubt love this even more.
His head sculpt is the usual for Wolverine, but the shape of the ears and the expression are new to this figure, once again a reminder of how specific the Astonishing Wolverine costume is when it comes to its details. The eyes are less noticeable under the shadows but the mask looks like that of a Xenomorph somewhat lol. Articulation is the same as before with prior Wolverines, but he has a double ball neck that works better than with other Hasbro Legends as well as a diaphragm joint and reverse ab-crunch combo usually seen in Spider-Man figures.
In addition to the unmasked head, he comes with the normal retracted-claw fists for when he's not increasing his kill count as well as a right hand with all 5 fingers splayed open and a leg hand with its index finger pointing. You can do any sorts of poses with either option, such as him counting up to six.
Here he is with the X-Men 97 and Heat Claws versions of himself, with the former still being my de facto Wolverine in my main display in spite of his weird leg proportions and odd color filtering. I may change my mind since I now own the Astonishing version of Wolverine, especially with how much more dynamic the costume is than with other versions of the character by comparison. I certainly got rid of my old heat claws Wolvie after taking these photos.
Overall, these two make for great comic versions of the two mutants of Marvel fame. Though I like Wolverine more as a figure for his more original tooling, Deadpool at least makes up from being another Bucky Cap reuse by coming with plenty of accessories. Get both of you haven't, but look out for any bootlegs of Deadpool himself. Of course, your best bet is to go to BBTS or Entertainment Earth instead. Happy hunting, you Sentinels!
