Here we have Captain Boomerang in hand, seemingly a new mold or at least reusing an older buck that can accommodate the harness and belt. While he is mostly plastic and doesn't have any paint on him, at least he doesn't look nor feel cheap. I always liked how the blues on this costume contrasted the red on Flash, though he and Captain Cold probably feel as if they have a little more in common than they should beyond the color. Jackets, blues, and the fact that they look like they're staying warm during the winter must make them feel like they have a lot more in common despite being unrelated otherwise.
The head sculpt is great, with a conniving smile that fits the character's life as an above average criminal in Flash's rogues gallery. The beard he has also fits the bill, combined with his beanie hat. His articulation is the same as with all other McFarlanes, but the leather jacket and cloth scarf elevate the quality of this figure even more. I'm amazed that the jacket isn't a rubberized plastic material like with the first Hush we got or made with a cheap fabric like how Hasbro does their jackets. The boomerangs are always fun and could be reused as generic accessories but are a bit oversized than the ones on his chest strap unless that was the intent.
He also has a display stand for his collector card as seen in earlier versions of the Collector Editions. Nothing groundbreaking but appreciative of the price. His open hands can even help demonstrate stuff like that.
Here he is with the Flash after an embarrassing defeat. Love how much the removable clothing accessories elevate the display and photography potential with a character like him, something you'd not normally get with cloth good figures since the jacket feels like it has some weight to it.
As for Deadshot, we have a more classic slice of DC yet not to the same extent as an evil Tuxedo Mask doofus. The red, blueish white, and bits of yellow may not be ideal for a mercenary, yet the layout of these colors and the badass design traits on him make it all work in the end; they could be a little darker than in their currently bright state to match the comic art better. I also love how the circle in the torso represent a reticle, much like the monocle on his featureless yet sinister mask. The arm-mounted guns are miniscule yet they go with a leas-but-more approach that keeps him as a sniper without using any obvious weapons. I believe the proportions feel comparable to the Speeding Bullets version of Batman, aka Clark Kent as the Dark Knight before becoming Superman proper. For anyone not huge on the colors, wait till we go over the Platinum.
His head sculpt, as mentioned earlier, is quintessential for Deadshot. I also appreciate how the trim for the monocle and the eye are painted instead of being the same as the base plastic color used on the mask. Articulation is the same, yet he comes with his own accessories. Swappable guns with different effects. It's a different approach from how Hasbro normally has the effect parts separate from the weapons, though the small size might have resulted in the effect parts being permanently molded in place. At least it's better than how Mr. Freeze's gun has the blast effects glued in place. The pointing hands even elevate the figure's personality during posing.
The biggest issue I have other than the color scheme not exactly fitting a mercenary would be the lack of storage. Either the holsters are too small for these or they are meant to hold ammo if the guns were meant to be attached onto him at all times. Maybe he can be posed swapping the guns for different poses with his otherwise needless trigger finger hands.
Here we have him next to Cowardly Lot Batman, who is not only a huge contrast in his darker colors, but the scale between these two almost feels reminiscent of their DCEU iterations' encounter in the 2016 Suicide Squad movie, especially with how Cowardly Lot Batman feels more like a comic-styled Batfleck than the Miller depiction that inspired him.
Both figures have Platinum chase variants that are harder to track down, though while I like the blue on Captain Boomerang more than the white, I much prefer the crimson/dark gray combo on Deadshot since it helps him feel more like a proper mercenary. It's why I prefer the blood red on Daredevil's costume instead of making him a brighter shade. That being said, Captain Boomerang is a mighty recommend from me thanks to his accessory count, the quality of his removable jacket and scarf, and the inclusion of that card display piece that Deadshot and most CEs lack inexplicably. Deadshot is also great, but the regular version looking worse than the Platinum version as well as the lack of that cardholder, knock a point off.
Final ranking: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and a half out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Captain Boomerang)
⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Deadshot)
