Power Rangers Dino Fury Basic Figures review

I'm generally happy with Hasbro's handling of the PR line when it comes to the basic figures, these guys are pretty plentiful in terms of quality while not going too crazy in all of the variants that one would expect. That being said, while Beast Morphers had fewer modes to work with, Dino Fury seems to have more of an emphasis on all of the armor and power-ups that would have been present under Bandai (and not to mention the cockpit modes in the regular and super seasons). Weirdly, there are only four characters available in the line rather than 5 as seen with the first waves of BM guys seen in 2019 and 2020, but maybe they'll be just as good.

Here is the Red Dino Fury Ranger in-hand. This figure recreates the design of the character's suit from the show, and with the Beast Morphers suits having the leather suit detailings, one wonders how Hasbro would make the spandex suits work in the sculpting in terms of making it look less smooth like with the Bandai figures. If you remember the Triple Dino 3-pack that has MMPR Red, Dino Thunder Blue, and Dino Charge Pink, then you'll be aware of the proportionate details that the on-show characters have. The more interesting thing is nailing the three-layered suit design, as most of the suit has the specific Ranger color, the black zig-zag chest pattern, and a small portion of silver for the left side of the torso as well as for the arm. Generally, it works well in terms of execution, but the arm is a dull gray without any silver; the same can be said for the belt, but at least the forearm cuffs and the center emblem look good. The Dino Fury Morpher is not painted but I can't really complain about it since at least the sculpting is consistent with everyone else.

Head sculpt is accurate to the real suit design, and it makes me take back my initial thoughts on the Ryusoulger designs; while the Morpher and Zords feel like rushed designs to get some half-baked product in the market, I have to commend Ryusoulger to stand out with their suit designs by making not just the torso different from the other Dino seasons but also give the helmets a little more distinction than the norm. The knight visor is present but it also implements the dino head designs well, which, yes, online toku people, the knight theme is kept intact, so now you can shut up about them not calling it Dino Knights. So yeah, the designs feel original, even if the color scheme for the team mimicked Kyoryuger's palette. The articulation is the same as with the Beast Morphers figures, so you have ball-joints at the head, shoulders that move front and back as well as in and out, swivels at the elbows, bends at the elbows, hips that move front and back as well as in and out, swivels at the knees, and bends at the knees. His sole accessory is not the Chromafury Saber but an original weapon...which I don't think is the same sword he had in the Megazord cockpit either. Could go for either one, guys, but at least they are trying to be creative. The dino theme does let Hasbro be a little more creative, but this weapon does feel kinda plain compared to what we'll see with the other Rangers.

Here is his Power Key! It is still in the same cheap style as with the one that came with the Morpher, so that means no flipping gimmick and instead it's a sticker. I already mentioned that I don't give a fuck about the Ryusouls because of how lazy and pathetic they are, and I don't think the Hasbro ones are any better, but at least the Hasbro ones come with the same sculpted details...which make me feel maybe the one that comes with the Megazord will be better.

For a comparison with the one that came with the Morpher, you can tell that while they have the same basic details, they at least sculpted the keys differently as well as giving us a proper sticker. So now we go from Battlizer form to a key that better resembles the Ranger. And from the back, we go from the dino head to the Megazord face.

Here it is inserted into the Morpher. In terms of the sounds it makes, you get fire attack sounds that do make sense given how the Red Ranger works...still, it seems weird we don't have any voices for the included keys like with the Beast Morphers ones. We do get a more upbeat morph jingle that adds even more attack sounds, which is pretty different from the ones we get with the toy already. For some reason, there are car alarms from a few attacks, likely of the Red Ranger being destructive against the monsters.

Here is the Dino Fury Red Ranger in-between Mighty Morphin Red and Beast Morphers Red, and as you can see, he's in-between the two heights of each Red Ranger. Weirdly, he doesn't come with any extra sidearms. Might be intentional, but it just makes his left hand feel naked without a gun.

Here is the Blue Ranger in-hand, and he's got the same points worth mentioning with the Red Ranger; the gray weirdly doesn't look as bad on him as with the Red Ranger, which isn't too much of a bad thing. Beyond the color and helmet, he's the same in terms of sculpting, and has little to no severe quality control issues.

Head sculpt is accurate to the show, but there is a paint error that depicts more silver on the helmet than there should be. While it is inaccurate, this is an error that won't be as bothersome as, say, the Lightning Collection having the inaccurate helmet shape for MMPR Red and Dino Thunder White's missing visor. Oh and Dino Charge Pink's visor outline. His articulation is the same as always, but now you have his twin Triceratops swords. These designs are distinct compared to the sword, and whether or not we'll see these weapons in the show has yet to be seen. He's the only one to have more than one weapon.

Here is his key. It's pretty much the same in terms of functionality as with Red's, but with the different sculpting and sticker detailing. The Triceratops head and the face are new for this key.

And in terms of how the key looks when inserted, there is that. It makes rubber sounds that might allude to the elastic powers that might be used in the show. Maybe to help a Ranger stretch their limbs, Mr. Fantastic style, or they'd be used to weaken an enemy's durability. The jingle that plays has a somewhat comedic tone to the instrumentals, not like they're entirely goofy, but they're meant to go with the superelastic sounds.

Next up, it's the Pink Ranger! As the only girl on the set, Hasbro didn't make this figure feel skimped out in any way! She's consistent with the rest of the figures, but because her skirt's molded in a pink PVC material, they made her belt silver, which looks better than the belts on the guys since they look flat gray. Beyond that, she has the female proportions from Beast Morphers Yellow and Dino Charge Pink.

The head sculpt is accurate as always, and like Beast Morphers Yellow and unlike Dino Charge Pink, she looks very complete in terms of the helmet. Her articulation is the same as with every other Ranger, and while her skirt may inhibit her movement somewhat, it's much better than with any of the prior figures from Bandai.

The key does the same as with every other key mentioned earlier: unique molding, unique sticker, and unique faceplate...which feels incomplete for how there's no black on the visor. Is that how it's supposed to be?

And in terms of sounds that this key makes when inserted in the Morpher, you get gravity-type sounds that sound a little less rubbery than the Blue key's sounds. The more distinct sound is the slam that it makes when you pretend to punch the air. Its morph jingle is kind of cool and almost makes it on-par with the second morph tune that plays when no key is inserted; the supergravity attack sounds play well, too.

And finally, here is Boomtower! He is a character that has yet to appear in the show (and will pop up in Episode 4), but one thing worth mentioning is that he's the first villain to get a figure, as neither Void Knight or Mucus showed up (another general named Shockhorn has a vinyl figure in the bigger figure 2-packs) in the toy line, but Boomtower? Let's hope he's a worthy addition. Anyways, his design looks really cool, with the tower theme that I believe is carried over from the chess aesthetics of some of the Ryusoulger villains, and I think he's inspired by a rook. The color scheme is good, and the paint apps are applied nicely, though those shoulder symbols are stickers. It's fine, and they are applied well for me.

Head sculpt is accurate, and I appreciate that they went in there and painted him up nicely and is sculpted well, even with the clunky pieces. Now here's something we gotta talk about when it comes to the villain articulation. Basically, the head moves left and right, and the arms move front and back only due to the design (which is okayish, while the lower arms swivel and bend at the elbows. The hips move front and back only yet the lower leg movement is the same as with the normal figures. Yeah, we're back to that state, but at least the sword looks cool and reminds me of a key.

And surprisingly, he has a key of his own! Yeah, Ryusouls in Japan had the same design with barely different sounds and gimmicks, but here, they actually gave the villains proper attention! Even the face is unique for him! You can almost imagine this head on the Megazord as he brainwashed it in his favor!

And in terms of the sounds made by this key, you get fart noises! Yes. Inb4 people complain about the inclusion of the fart sounds, blame this type of humor being used since Kyoryuger with that stupid Ovirapoo sound. The weird thing is that the morph music is less rock and more DJ-type music. I'm not lying when I'm saying this Morpher is weird AF. Also, when I was messing with the key sounds, my dog Lucas hated hearing it and he started to growl and bark at the Morpher (no he didn't damage it).

And here is Hank Hill with not a Power Ranger or a villain but a character named Hank Hill from the popular Fox show King of the Hill! This guy is a famous propane and propane accessory salesman, and he had a friend named Boomhauer...in fact, Boomtower...Boomhauer...was the Sporix Beast part of Boomhauer's DNA?!

And that's the first wave out of the way! It's still weird that we have only 4 guys in the starting wave, since you'd think there'd be another villain to go with Boomtower, like the ones I mentioned or the Hengemen. Maybe they didn't want to spoil too much just yet, but it's weird. As for the figures that we do have, I'm loving what we got, as the Rangers are pretty solid in terms of quality and are equal to what Beast Morphers Wave 1 is, and Boomtower looks awesome in spite of his lacking articulation. The only stupid thing are the keys because of how cheap they are. Beyond that, these figures are great as always.
