Star Wars The Black Series Jar Jar Binks review

Plenty of people tend to shit on Jar Jar Binks, but there is a lot that I find fascinating about him, between how animated he is and the way he caused the events of the universe to occur. Plus, he's a better-handled character compared to the majority of Sequel Trilogy characters anyhow since he had a purpose and had genuinely funny moments (the icky goo and p.u-sah jokes weren't great, though). Jar  is an example of a goofy guy that means well nonetheless, and if he was real, he can stop by at my house and enjoy a nice steak.

Here is Jar Jar in-hand, looking like how he should in the movies. He's got the right amount of texture and paint work added to replicate his appearance in the movie. I like the fade from the orange in the outer part of his skin to the inner tan used prominently for his mouth and neck; his ears gave little gray points to give him a more varied look to them while the textures are nicely detailed and add a layer of feeling organic despite being a plastic toy. The clothes have some nice wrinkles to them, and I like how the vest and waist robe look despite them being of minimal detailing in terms of paint. Even the feet are nicely detailed, and both they and the hands have some great paint used for the nails.

Head sculpt is accurate though does look a little plain for Jar Jar standards. His eyes are well-painted and I like the wrinkles on his skin as well as the nostrils, but I wish he had an alternate head that's more expressive and captures his spirit even more. His articulation is generally good, with two points at the head, shoulders that move front and back as well as in and out, swivels at the elbows as well as a bend at them (90° as far as range is concerned). The hands swivel as well as hinge in and out. He has a diaphragm joint, and his hips move front and back as well as in and out while his thighs swivel and his knees bend at two points. He has feet that can hinge up and down as well as rock side to side. Held in his right hand is one of the accessories he comes with, which is his booma weapon that makes me think of his line "Uh oh, big boomas!" The paint and the ball used on the weapon are both nicely done!

As far as other display options are concerned, you have the cesta (which comes in 2 pieces) as well as a shield that has both a dark gold trim and a nice fade from clear to purple.

If you want to get a slightly more affordable version of Jar Jar, there is a version of it that has the blister card from The Phantom Menace as well as fewer accessories. This Jar Jar figure is almost perfect; all he needs is a few more accessories to justify his price tag; I hate that Hasbro is bumping up the prices for their products so the way they're justifying all this without adding a few more accessories is pretty sucky. A smiling head and alternate hands would be nice! Oh well, here he is holding the Matrix. Arise, Jarimus Prime!

Final ranking: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and a half out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
