Marvel Legends Morlun Review (Armadillo BAF wave)

Morbius got a movie a while back, and while I grew tired of the ironic praise and memes as much as I am the hideous nature of comic book movie fans of late, I can't really say I'm a big fan of the movie due to it being pretty okay but nothing that rewatchable compared to the Venom duology. I'm positive Morbius had a comic figure but not a movie figure, and while there were a lot of delays for that movie thanks to the pandemic, Morlun gets a figure of his own this time, which allows him to fill the ranks of the Marvel villains as he's best known for hunting down the Spider-Totems and wanting to kill all versions of Spider-Men, which had him beat the Earth-616 version to a pulp. As far as I know, Morlun never fought or teamed up with Morbius, which surprised me given how both are vampires, but perhaps we can see something like that in a Morbius 2 if it manages to be as successful as Venom? Either way, it's more likely that this figure getting any praise if we're being honest.

Here is Morlun in-hand, who looks decent enough for what he is. As far as visuals are concerned, I think he is done up very well with the suit having wrinkles throughout it that look weathered from his savage characteristics, the hair looks decent on the back, the coattails are done up nicely, and the buttons for the back of the suit and the wrist cuffs are painted nicely. The shirt being silver may come from either the creative choice the toy designers had in mind or this being a budget figure meaning that it was meant to have a simpler color palette. The blue inner shirt looks out of place, but at least the neck brace looks painted nicely. I appreciate that the wrists and pants have a dark gray compared to the black coat and shoes, but that's as far as the figure is concerned. The proportions are decent, but I can't help but feel that the toy feels a little gummier than the norm. Like, the parts that have the elbows and knees bend are more flexible than they are on other Marvel Legends, and it's especially worse with the hands. I appreciate the blood paint apps and the eerie fingernails, but the materials are not up to par with the rest of the line if I'm being honest.

Head sculpt is decently done, with what's supposed to be an eerie grin and the bloodshot red eyes combined with the slick black hair and the stony gray skin, but I think the normal head sculpt kind of sucks compared to the alternate head. Maybe one that has him in a yelling face would be much better done if you wanted to go for the alternate head route. His articulation is the norm for the Marvel Legends lineup, with a ball and hinge combo for the head, shoulders that move front and back as well as in and out, bicep swivels, elbow bends, wrist swivels and hinges, an ab crunch, a waist swivel, hips that move front and back, in and out, thigh swivels, double-jointed knees, swivels above the ankle in addition to the hinges and pivots. Apart from the snarling alternate head, the only other thing he comes with is the right arm for Armadillo. So overall, this figure is a mixed bag, and it's something I'm not too sure I'd be happy with given how you have a trend for Marvel Legends figures to either be really well-made like Miles and then ones that end up being mediocre like Morlun. I bet if we get a Tomb of Dracula set from Hasbro, the least they can do apart from reusing this makes it a better quality figure since the current state of it is pretty weak for modern Legends standards.
