Power Rangers Lightning Collection Zeo Cogs review

Power Rangers Zeo has been very well-known for changing things up after MMPR had its 3-year run. While the writing has kind of been more or less the same as Season 3, things like the new suits, arsenal, and change of character roles gave the show a breath of fresh air that was needed badly. One of the additions was the Machine Empire, replacing Rita, Zedd, and the rest of the first Evil Space Aliens. If anything, it was shocking to see how versatile the Cogs were in the show, between them being very intelligent, nearly being fearless, having either melee weapons or relying on their fists and laser eyes, and being impossible to beat. Even Zeo added an extra Cog that Ohranger didn't have, so let's see how these guys turn out!

Here we have the two Zeo Cogs in silver and velvet, looking rather simple all around. It is worth mentioning that the normal Cogs have a more metallic look to their bodies in contrast to the matte of the velvet ones. They do have some black paint for the cuffs as well as some gold for the belt and around the toes of the boots while above the ankles of the boots are silver trims, so we get at least a few paint apps to make them look decent all around.

Head sculpt is very classic robot inspired, with the grill mouth, beady eyes, and gold helmet. It's simple enough that it doesn't feel like it's missing anything. As for the articulation, it has the same ball-jointed neck with a hinge below the former joint, shoulders that move front and back, in and out, bicep swivels, elbow bends, wrist swivels and hinges, diaphragm joints, ab-crunches, ball-jointed hips, thigh swivels, knee bends, boot swivels, ankle pivots, and rockers. As you can see, I have the silver one punching the velvet one, exposing the latter's face mechanisms while the two hold differently long versions of the staff weapon.

Each of them has the same amount of accessories: the punching chest effect, the staff weapon in short and long mode, a right fist, a left open hand, the exposed face for the laser attacks, and a punch effect.

For a comparison with an older toy, you can see just how much toy technology changed, blah blah blah, though the old ones had the chest-beating gimmick if you wanted to have the Machine Empire play Donkey Cog. Anyways, the Zeo Cogs are simple enough to not make fans rip their hair out over any serious paint mistakes, and they're easy to have army-build at least compared to the putties from 2020. Also much like the MMPR Z-Putty, a standalone Cog will be released along some other with two Dino Rangers and one Ranger that is close to white, though this time, it's Dino seasons Fury and Charge with Red and Pink, respectively, and a silver guy in the form of the Wild Force Lunar Wolf Ranger.

Final Ranking: ⭐⭐⭐ and a half out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
