Power Rangers Lightning Collection Omega Rangers review

SPD isn't the only team to have an Omega Ranger of its own. Have you ever wondered what happened to Jason, Trini, and Zack after they left the show in Season 2? It might seem like a needless thing to explain at first glance, yet Boom Studios made what is certainly not a simple explanation for that; because they expanded the lore of the PR universe where they had the seemingly retired trio of Rangers delve into a secret mission beyond Earth as the new Omega Rangers. I love what the Boom Studios comics have to offer for their add-ons with the Power Rangers universe, and it was great to have these in a collection the same way Lord Drakkon and the Ranger Slayer were. But the original Red, Yellow, and Black Rangers aren't alone, as they're joined alongside Kiya! Let's see if these Omega Rangers are worth buying!

Here we have both the Red Ranger and Black Ranger in-hand, as those two will be represented with the same tooling and sculpt work. Their main colors are nicely complimented with a dark grey as well as bronze highlights; the proper black on Zack's suit is a different shade from the rest of the suit, which I greatly appreciate since Hasbro could have easily skimped out on. I also like that the bronze paint apps mesh well with the parts that are molded in said color, what with how dull said color appropriately is. The suits are translated perfectly from the comics, and I would love these to be the template for the Hasbro reboot suits if, scratch that, WHEN production begins. The articulation showcases my biggest issue with the set as a whole: while it uses the updated pinless elbows and knees as well as double ball necks and drop-down hips, the suit design for the shoulder pads being integrated with the upper body instead of a separate part means there is no butterfly joint. I was hoping they'd work that in with these figures, but nope. It's almost comparable to the Bandai Legacy Collection's lack of butterfly joints. At the very least, they each come with their own weapons; Red has the Omega Katana while Black has the Omega Kamas. The former has a reused effect piece while the latter appears to be new.

Up next, here we have the girls, Trini the Yellow Ranger and Kiya the Blue Ranger. Their suits also match the guys, though it should be noted that while the helmets seem identical on all of them beyond coloring, the guys have the forehead triangles pointing up while the girls have theirs pointing down. I also like that we have a female Blue Ranger since the baby blue stands out nicely amongst the usual shades of blue from the guys, though I wish we get Ninja Storm and Mystic Force rep ASAP when the hiatus is done. Their weapons include the Omega Hammer for Yellow and the Omega Trident for Blue. Yellow has a unique effect piece while Blue has a reused one.

Overall, this is a neat set to buy if you're someone who loves the Omega Ranger suit designs or the comics they're from, BUT I cannot recommend it 100% because of the price. If there was a legitimate complaint to be had towards the Lightning Collection, it'd definitely be how pricey their stuff gets. Remastered, ZAP, and this are all practically guilty of doing this when they don't really have any need to, regardless of Hasbro's approach towards justifying a higher price and using it to claim their stuff is for hardcore collectors. They lack alternate heads yet they are each split as the same price you'd pay for one retail figure. I guess it's not as infuriating as the No Way Home 3-pack, but it's not saying much. Maybe wait for a sale since this ism't sold out like the Master Morpher.

Final ranking: ⭐⭐⭐ and a half out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
