Nendoroid Inuyasha & Kagome Higurashi review

After the review of the Toynami figures, I decided it was time to get these two Nendoroids taken care of now that I wanted to catch up with some anime figure purchases I made back in 2023, For anyone not in the know, a Nendoroid is another stab at the chibi character market made by Good Smile Company. These are similar to the Figuart Minis I covered before, only now they have alternate face plates, and their swappable arms also include different accessories they can hold. It was about time I reviewed Inuyasha and Kagome again, especially after God knows how long it's been since I opened them out of their boxes. They have been reissued a bit recently, so maybe see this review as a way to sway you in buying these two.

Here we have Inuyasha in-hand. This little guy perfectly captures the appearance he is known for in the anime, what with the red robes that contrast the white hair he has, and who can forget the way subtle details such as the purple on the torso or the necklace he wears that let Kagome tell him to sit. I'll get into the size comparisons in a moment, but I should mention that the chibified aesthetics that the Nendoroids so far appear to be executed differently from the Figuart Minis. But back to Inuyasha, he is a fairly simple guy in terms of detailing, but there are some appreciative bits of sculptwork that convey how his outfit looks like fabric as well as sculpt the hair to match the anime aesthetics while maintaining that super-deformed look.

The articulation in all Nendoroids includes a hinge at the neck for looking up and down as well as on a swivel for left and right. The shoulders and wrists are on swivels, the waist is on a swivel, and the hips and ankles are on ball joints. He can hold Tessaiga in one of his hands, provided you have the handle removed from the sheath. His fists can be replaced with more splayed open hands, or his arms can be replaced with bent ones to simulate him in a more dynamic pose, in addition to having an alternate bent leg. Replace the entire lower half of the body, give him handless arms, and he can be posed in a dog sitting position. The alternate faces between him with a battle-ready smile, a yelling face, and a more neutral face with a tiny mouth, complete the look.

The funniest thing about Nendoroids is how much like the Figuart Minis, you can take them apart and just murder them, only this time with even more disassembly than what their competitors deal with.

Here we have Kagome Higurashi. Once again in her signature school uniform, the green and white combined with the more modern fashion contrasts with the period that Inuyasha hailed from. The paint used for the figure is always a treat in ensuring everything is neither too desaturated nor too vibrant. That being said, her eyes should be brown instead of gray. I don't know if it was a deliberate decision or not, but I say this since not all stock photos don't have either eye color, making me wonder why gray was chosen. In any case, the figure still matches Kagome, apart from maybe the eyes. It should be worth mentioning that the paint may rub onto the faceplates, but it is otherwise unnoticeable.

Her articulation is about the same, though she has more range for the legs, given they're the same bare leg tooling Nendoroid uses for their anime girls. Her accessories include two alternate faces with angry expressions, alternate hands meant to hold her bow and arrow, and alternate arms for her accessories and other specific poses. She also has an alternate set of sitting legs for her to be posed next to Inuyasha without using leg articulation. Getting them on there is difficult because of the bottom of her shirt versus the lack of real space for the skirt. Also, the Kagome in the second pic is angry, likely because of the poor lighting in the first pic combined with me not having her quiver. To be fair, she has it mostly covered by her black hair.

Overall, these two make for more than just neat desk toys. They're not only suitable for anyone interested in getting versions of these characters with a chibi style but they also have some needed alternate accessories that make them more worthwhile than just sitting there. Oh, and Inuyasha also has an alternate right arm so he can use that Rumic World hand gesture that is more common to me as the Spider-Man hand. Here, he's throwing a gang sign next to his shawty. If you want them, they should be reissued commonly and also fairly affordable as the main couple of the show.

Final ranking: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and a half out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (for both)
