Blokees Transformers Jetwing Optimus Prime review

If you thought I would be done with Blokees earlier this year, think again! While I have planned to continue buying more figures from the company, prices, other lines, and the prominence of G1 and TFOne characters made me hold off on getting more characters apart from 2007 Prime and Megs. I guess I could get the cogless characters since they scale well with Studio Series, but blind boxes are the bane of my existence. Thankfully, the same cannot be said for my love for Movieverse Prime and his flight tech. So before we do an ROTB catch up, let's revisit the GOAT himself with some wings courtesy of not-Red Bull!

For all of the parts we got from the regular Optimus, we get twice the amount with the addition of the Jetwing gear. If you already own the original Optimus, you should be familiar with how to build him, possibly even without instructions.

For a comparison with the original, we have the Jetwing Prime on the right representing the DOTM modifications. Obviously, the abdomen and forearms are modified to represent the third movie better, but the smokestacks are not only replaced with pegs on the DOTM version, but the head is l smaller this time around. The proportions are slightly better on Dark of the Moon Prime, but those two factors also play into the functionality of Jetwing Prime later on.

The original Optimus head, chest, blades, forearms, hands, and Ion Blaster are still included. I always appreciate it whenever a company keeps the old accessories if you want a two-in-one display, especially since the few times I went to a FYE, they only had Megatron but not Optimus, and I hope they can sell Jetwing Prime.

With all that said, let's use one of the blades so he can fight against Sentinel Prime with an Energon Axe held in his left hand. While it's not painted at the axe head, at least it looks better than the Studio Series version in both coloration and design. He also comes with the Mega Striker, the giant gun he usually had in DOTM instead of the Ion Blaster. Him coming with a shield made me wish he had a handheld blade, but at least he can hold it properly and also have it look better once again than the Studio Series version.

And this takes us a step further towards the Jetwing set up as his entire forearms are swapped with the gatling cannons, which we now know are much bulkier units rather than being handheld as we get a better look at CG model references.  Even the Jetwing armor is much more accurate, what with the addition of blue, gold, and some flame decals to better match Prime's deco. The wings are even better at articulating, so they can be lowered when Prime isn't flying or angled differently depending on how fast he's going or how sharp his turns are.

Best of all, with the addition of a flight stand, posing Optimus Prime with his iconic flight tech has never been better! It rotates at two pegs (base and his back), while it can hinge at 3 points. All this and it makes for the definitive option of a Bayverse Prime from the Blokees line. If there were any other complaints I have, maybe he should come with an unmasked head, the Matrix, and some effect parts, but I feel bad for criticizing this set when it retains the parts of the 2007/ROTF Optimus for anyone who previously missed out! Whether that applies to you or if double dipping is something you don't mind, then I highly recommend this Optimus.
