Star Wars: The Black Series Captain Phasma review

Captain Phasma is one of those characters that people get hyped for before they end up getting shafted badly. She was said to be like the next Boba Fett, but not in the way fans were expecting; You know something's wrong when TR-8R got more to do than the heavily promoted character did. And it's funny how people would usually try to downplay any movie with characters that aren't as utilized as others, yet they get mad when Phasma gets treated with embarrassment in the Sequel Trilogy. Sure, the character returned in The Last Jedi, but it's pointless. I don't know if the character returned in The Rise of Skywalker, nor do I care. Maybe this figure will do fine.

Here is the figure as we have it. I should mention that this is another rare instance where taking pics at my review table wasn't possible since this was meant to be a gift for my cousin, and since he wanted me to review it, I decided to take pics at his place. It's a pretty decent representation of the suit from the movies, and I do like that it has the shiny silver paint used for the armor. The cape is also done pretty well; initially, I didn't think it'd work so well as a PVC material, but it's better done as it is than it would have been with a cloth cape. It even goes over the shoulder, as it should, complete with red trim for a part of it.

The helmet design looks accurate, but I kind of wish Phasma looked a bit more unique. It's just a silver version of the First Order Stormtrooper helmet without any of the differences that make her rank higher than others, which was something Clone Troopers had.

'
The articulation is pretty good. Head is on a ball joint and on a neck hinge, shoulders move front and back as well as in and out, swivel at the elbow and bend at it, along with wrists that hinge and swivel. There is a diaphragm joint, and the legs move front and back, in and out, swivel at the thighs, bend at the knees, and both hinge and pivot at the ankles.

The weapon she comes with looks good, yet it appears to be in a faint gold shade compared to her silver armor. Perhaps it was meant to be that way?

There was a variant made for The Last Jedi, which depicts her in a scene that was removed from the movie as far as I'm aware. Her suit's damaged, and she has a knife as well as a staff this time. It's probably neat had this character got more to do than stand around.

Overall, despite my dislike towards Disney Star Wars nowadays and the treatment of this character, Black Series Captain Phasma is a good figure to buy. Articulation, suit coloring, and the cape do look nice, but it's a shame that Phasma is the new Boba Fett not by being badass but by being a lackluster character that looks cool. Jango Fett still wins even if he appeared in a single movie, as he fought against legends like Obi-Wan and Mace Windu, was involved with the creation of the Clone Army, has a video game devoted to himself, and, put simply, is the most ruthless bounty hunter the galaxy's ever seen. Oh, right, we're still reviewing Phasma. It's a decent figure, I guess. Nothing much else to say beyond that.
