Power Rangers Lightning Collection Pink Ranger/Yellow Ranger v Scorpina 2-in-1 review

It took me a while to wait for these two-packs to be reduced in price because I didn't want to double-dip in two figures I already own just to get the other figures I actually wanted. Pink and Yellow were in the 2nd and 4th waves, respectively, and we don't have single releases of Zeo Ranger I Pink nor Scorpina. So now that we have them both for half off, let's see if the Kat Pack and the one and only time Aisha fought against Scorpina was worth it.

Let's cover MMPR Yellow right away. This figure is nearly identical to the original release, though the joint tolerance may vary. Her accessories are different, with the civilian head representing Aisha Campbell rather than Trini Kwan while her effect pieces are now red instead of yellow. New to her arsenal is a Blade Blaster in blade mode.

Now let's cover Scorpina, nearly 2 years later after she was announced more or less! Newly sculpted as a lot of villains are, she captures the look of the armor generally well, with her character design being pretty asymmetrical everywhere except for the torso. Her right arm is very exposed in contrast to her armored left-arm, and her right thigh has the spandex material while the left thigh has armor added on. While the yellow on her suit might seem a little brighter than the norm, and the gold a bit dull, I still value how good the design turned out in plastic form. I also just noticed how the back had her hair out, which I barely remember from all the times I saw the show.

Her head sculpt is pretty good, and it's nice to see it resemble the Japanese actress from Season 1 rather than the one time she appeared in Season 2. Her articulation is once again the same as before, though with a few hindrances from her hair. Her weapon is nicely sculpted and has a good use of paint to make it look worn from numerous battles up until MMPR. In addition, she has alternate hands and an effect piece (see below).

Here she is next to her golden guy, Goldar. While she and Goldar were mere teammates in MMPR, their Japanese counterparts, Grifforzor and Lamie actually do have a baby. How they reproduced is not mentioned, but it might be alien beastiality. I can see Zedd and Rita raising Thrax since Zedd is technically a human alien, but Goldar's more beastial by comparison. Anyways, this 2-pack's great to have another stab at an MMPR Yellow Ranger as well as having a main villain from MMPR Season 1 while also realizing that Aisha and Scorpina barely co-existed in the show apart from a brief kerfuffle in Goldar's Vice Versa, AKA the one MMPR Season 2 episode I own.

And up next, we get the little cat accessory out of the way because it doesn't really do much apart from referencing Kat's disguise in Season 3 so we can get to MMPR Pink. So if you recall, there was another comparison made for the Ninja Turtles reviews back in 2022, where yet another identity of the suit was brought in as April O'Niel; that figure lacks the skirt and came with an updated helmet, which is what we get for the 2-pack version. I like the helmet on the new one since it better resembled what it looks like in the show, and I remember thinking that the first version didn't have any accuracy issues when put next to the Legacy version, but the problem was that it actually did on top of the Legacy figure not looking that great in terms of proportions. I am also happy to report that the quality control on this figure's paint apps is better than on the first one. However, both this figure and Zeo Pink have right boot swivels that are stuck, and it tore off on this one so I had to glue it back in place. I may swap parts if necessary.

The alternate head is now for Katherine Hillard rather than Kimberly Ann Hart, which is something I already like as it gives her onw of two alternate hairdos. Her blade blaster is thankfully with the white paint apps and not the inaccurate silver one. She comes with the same bow and arrow but without the effect part.

And now, we got Zeo Ranger I Pink. This is currently the only way to get this suit in the line, and it's got the same pros and cons as Zeo Ranger II Yellow, but only in pink and with her own helmet. It's got the same great use of gold paint apps on the belt, glove and boot cuffs, and collar, on top of the shade of pink being appropriately for the suit (though both figures have issues with discrepancies when seen in-hand). And I also like the gold trim for the under side of her skirt. It helps her feel complete, though I wish her left arm's outward shoulder movement was tighter because it looks a little warped, making it ratchet loosely.

Her helmet is accurate to the way it looks in the show, though the silver outline for the visor further shows how inconsistent Hasbro is with the Zeo team when it comes to using the outlines for the visor. Her accessories are mostly new; apart from the same karate chop hand and fist, she comes with her shield, an effect piece deflectingg the shield, a blast effect in green, her ponytail alterate head, abnd the standard pod sword and blaster.

The display options she gets are on-par with what we've gotten before, though I should mention that the eyes on this other head might be slightly misaligned, and the shield can either be held via a peg or clipped on the arm, like how we've seen with different Marvel Legends Captain America figures.

By this point, I won't be going over any comparisons unless it's a character that was never done, since it's the same approach of comparing the same type of Zeo character that had yet to be nd here she is with her teammates. She looks great with her Zeo teammates as is the case with a lot of Lightning Collection figures, and it's great to finally complete the second-ever team in the entire line. That being said, I'm not someone that likes to bitch about the Lightning Collection all the time, but apart from the effect pieces for the guns being inconsistent or the visors, I gotta ask why she gets black paint for her boots when the others don't?

This two-pack reminded me of how unusually obsessed Hasbro was with pushing the Mighty Morphin Pink hype during a Fan First Friday. Talking about how she's the best non-stop while also forgetting how most of the releases feel needless. Granted, that can be summed up with a lot of repaints, but outside of the 2-pack (which would be even cooler if it was Turbo Pink instead of MMPR) or the helmet, did fans REALLY need a comic book version of the Pink Ranger with terrible shading paint apps? Did fans really need the Power Morpher? These are questions fans can only ask, but if you got this set on clearance, I'd recommend it because at the very least, you're paying for two figures for the price of one rather than the full price it went for. I did a similar thing for the MMPR Yellow vs Scorpina set.
