My quest for the definitive Batfleck is taking longer to complete than with Tobey Spidey. Mattel's versions sucked while McFarlane was able to do a decent but not 100% perfect version of the character. While I would love to delve into the world of Figuarts and MAFEX, I would normally reserve those for emergencies unless I got lucky with getting more than just Batfleck for a display. Luckily, FondJoy has its own stab at the character that may be suited for a 1/10 scale display. Is their version of Snyder's Dark Knight better than McFarlane? Let's find out!
Here we have Batfleck in-hand, already having a more pristine yet still accurate costume design for anyone wanting to get a more standard version of his original costume. It's not to be confused with the ZSJL version, which has a tweaked cowl and altered abs, but this is the more preferred version of the character. I love the inclusion of shading as well as the gray used on the suit; it doesn't look too bright or too blue. The utility belt as well as the knuckles and the boot toes have a light copper look that isn't too bright of a gold, and the proportions are much more like Batfleck's than the McFarlane one. He even has a normally sculpted crotch that doesn't disrupt the costume details, something McFarlane could have done for superhero suits without trunks (though a few exceptions are fine). The cape is not normal cloth, though it is thankfully not a cheap material. It has a certain quality to it that makes it comparable to some Hot Toys figures, which is possible that they have access to the same materials used by the same company.
His head sculpt is perfect. It has the right shape, the butt chin, and aura that only Batfleck could capture, similar to how Michael Keaton his lips, Bale has his less prominent eyes, and Pattinson has his big forehead. His articulation is about the same as the McFarlane version, including a double-ball jointed neck, shoulder rotation, outward arm movement, washer joints that work similarly to a ball joint for further movement, bicep rotation, double-jointed elbows, a double-wrist joint that allows either laterally or vertically, joints for both the upper and lower torso regions, hips that move front and back, in and out, slight thigh rotation, double-jointed knees, ankles that swivel, hinge, and pivot, with toeticulation added to boot (pun intended). Though the wires are thinner than on the McFarlane capes, they work similarly to the point that you wouldn't notice.
His accessories include a display base with the BvS logo, a clear neck for said base, a pair of alternate hands meant to hold the two Batarangs, an additional pair of hands meant for the Grapnel Gun, a right hand giving the thumbs up, and a breathing mask that can be swapped with the faceplate.
The neck is admittedly too short for a figure this tall, but you can at least manage to display him more dynamically than with the average McFarlane stand. I also appreciate that the Grapnel Gun is not only painted beautifully but is also proportionate to him. The same goes to the Batarangs painted silver and scaled appropriately unlike the McFarlane versions. They also fit snuggly in his Batarang-holding hands. Swapping the mouth with the mask is somewhat difficult given the size of the head as well as making sure not to scrape any plastic or paint off the mouth. The breathing apparatus and removing the cape simply by popping the base of the neck off, removing the cape, and reattaching the neck, is a much studier execution than how McFarlane did it with his Night People Batman figure (DO YOU GET IT TODD????). Also, I loved the how subtle the Knightfall homage was when Batman rescued Harley Quinn, especially with how it wasn't super in-your-face it was compared to people hyping up easter eggs more than the quality of recent CBMs.
And of course we have have the unmasked head that have its own separate base piece to hold the cape in place while keeping the neck a separate piece. The likeness to Ben Affleck is the cherry on top, from how life like it is to the paintwork on the hair and stubble. Easily beats any other offerings we've seen before. Certain orders have that as a bonus, though I wish there was a dedicated spot for the box proper to store it rather than having it in a smaller, separate box. Next to the McFarlane version, he is an easy slam dunk. For anyone happy to see me bash Todd's toys much more than the average NPC, they better find this online and get it ASAP. Better proportions, better display options, better accuracy. Tell me, do you want to buy one? You will. You have to.
